You head to your friend's house party. Before you make it you have to stop at the grocer to pick up some "Adult Soda" or some ice or maybe some snacks per your friend's request. In any case, you make your purchases and load your car up heading off to your friend's. You contemplate calling your friend for help from your car because you bought the twenty pound bag of ice that was cheaper than buying several smaller bags and you opted for the 36 pack rather than the 24 pack of beer because it too was cheaper or on sale rather. But instead you decide you're a strong woman and you can carry it all by yourself. It's not that far. As you make it to their door you're like oh wow I may drop this. The ice is busted open at the top from when you almost dropped it or maybe when you pulled it from your car. Your fingers are aching because the cardboard from the beer box or the grocery bag handles are digging into your skin by your wrist. You're thinking, "That's gonna leave a mark." But despite that factor you're at their door knocking. You hear the routine "Come in." Of course you're thinking, "Hey assholes I can't open the door with my hands full but fine I'll figure it out. You open the door and everyone either just stares at you as you waddle in hoping you don't drop everything right there as you're perspiring and wishing someone would come help you and take away some of the items in your hands. Instead, one of your friends just says hey and you hurry over to a wall to drop the items. Now there's a brief moment there where a true gentleman or gentle woman would come try to help you and at least offer or hold the door or something. A prick of any kind will just watch you suffer or try to see who's at the door and literally walk away from you.
You're not alone. This happens all the time in LA. It's like guys here left their manners back east or in the south or maybe they never learned. I mean WTF?! Help a girl out. Maybe it's time everyone got a reality check and remembered that something as simple as holding a door open for the next person behind you or just paying forward an act of kindness is worth the smile and thank you you get back. - Once upon a time a short blonde from Nashville, TN moved to la la land to work in feature films. Little did she know she'd do just that but end up leaving film and tv production six years later to start a new career in librarianship across the country. That's right, she not only lived among celebrity royalty reaping the benefits of expensive swag and cashing in on long hours because you have no life when you work up to 16 hours a day or more depending on the show. But after a great deal of thought, "putting out fires," as that's more or less what a soon to be Producer does, was becoming a thing of the past and facilitating young members in a community with digital literacy was to become a part of the future. Thus, from Los Angeles to New York, no not the city but the western part of the state, I am in the process of obtaining a masters in Library Science: School Media which means I will be a librarian in a K-12 or academic university setting if I am so lucky. And just maybe, "peut-etre" I'll become a published writer with all the free time I'll have. Here's hoping a new city, new people, and new adventures will bring more entertaining subjects to capture.
